In February we provided over 70 treatments and we are already booked up until the middle of March. We really could not have asked for a better start.

As the idea of the clinic was to provide affordable acupuncture for everyone the huge demand has meant that availability of treatments has been severely reduced. James and I have decided to increase the availability of the clinic. Open Space Acupuncture will now be run on Wednesday 10:00-13:00, Thursday 10:00-13:00 and Saturday 10:00-17:00!

This will practically double the availability of treatments, making sure that there is always availability when you need it!

We both look forward to another busy month.

It was a concept conceived by myself and hypnotherapist Paul Haynes. We wanted to design a therapy that really dealt with both the mind and body as we saw a large gap in the market when patients were looking for lifestyle treatments such as weight loss and stop smoking.

As an acupuncturist I had seen many patients for stop smoking that claimed they had tried hypnosis with no success but found it easy with acupuncture. Paul had a similar experience with patients trying acupuncture with no luck and yet succeeding with hypnosis. We wondered what would happen if you combined the two and offered a treatment that was not an either or choice. Patients would no longer have to try one way and then look for another alternative if that one did not work.

Our initial trials of the treatment came back with fantastic results and we wondered what other conditions we could treat with Hypnopuncture. By far the most popular treatment we provide is weight loss. The success we have had with helping people to lose weight has led to articles about Hypnopuncture being published in both the Evening Standard and the Daily Mail as well as several magazines.

Hypnopuncture previously has only been available in London but we are both looking forward to treating in Bushey’s newest therapy clinic – The Changing Room.

By being able to treat more than one patient at time, a multibed clinic is able to offer acupuncture at much affordable rates than one to one treatments. When I trained in China my teacher used to operate 8 beds at one time! The room at the Changing Room is not quite that big, so I will only be running up to 3 beds at once. This means that the price of a 40 minute acupuncture treatment will be only £20!

This style of clinic is perfect for treating specific types of complaints, namely pain conditions, complaints during pregnancy and a wide array of digestive and stress related conditions. As the practitioner is looking after more than one patient at a time, the sessions are much more treatment intensive with less time to really converse with the practitioner meaning it does not lend itself to very complex or emotional based conditions.
There are a few multibed clinics that have grown up in the UK but The Open Space Acupuncture Clinic is the first in Hertfordshire. They prove very popular as they really open up the benefits of acupuncture to the wider community.

The clinic is also registered with the Association of Community and Multibed Acupuncture Clinics.

I will be offering the full range of traditional Chinese medicine treatments from the Changing Room, from acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to tuina (Chinese massage), cupping and moxibustion.

I will have a private clinic running on Wednesday afternoons, where patients can come to see me for one to one treatments. On Wednesday and Thursday mornings I will operate a multibed clinic. On Thursday afternoons and evenings I will be practicing hypnopuncture with my colleague Paul Haynes.

So what are multibed clinics and Hypnopuncture? I hear you ask. Well you will just have to read my next blogs ;)
